Imprisoned 'psychic' who defrauded millions from clients goes after her trial lawyer in appeal
Convicted "psychic" Rose Marks, who is serving 10 years in federal prison for a $17.8 million South Florida-based fortune-telling fraud, is using a novel legal argument to go after her trial lawyer in an appeal of her criminal convictions.
Marks, 65, formerly of Fort Lauderdale and Hollywood, claims her lawyer had a conflict of interest in the high-profile case because he signed a contract linked to a book manuscript she wrote with one of her nephews.
Marks said she had hoped her tell-all tale written under the working title "Three Wishes" would be sold as an e-book on Amazon.com but it was never published.
The lawyer, Fred Schwartz of Boca Raton, agreed to scrutinize the manuscript and defend the authors against any defamation claims they anticipated would be filed by victims of the yearslong Gypsy fortune-telling fraud, court records show.
