Brush fires spark in DeBary and Port Orange

Several brush fires broke out in Volusia County and parts of Flagler and St. Johns counties Saturday afternoon, authorities said.

One fire in DeBary, off Highbanks Road near the railroad tracks, began as 2-acre blaze when the Department of Forestry arrived around 3:30 p.m., officials said.

Dubbed the Dutchmans Bend Fire, the DeBary fire grew to an estimated 50 acres by 9 p.m., according to a series of tweets by the Florida Forest Service office in Bunnell. The fire was 50% contained, the Forest Service said. No structures were in danger.

The National Weather Service in Melbourne said smoke could be an issue for DeBary overnight.
