Postal worker accused of dumping mail arrested

A U.S. Postal Service worker who allegedly dumped mail into a DeKalb County ditch has been arrested, Channel 2 Action News reported.

The accused mail carrier, Thomas Beaurem, was arrested Monday afternoon.

In October, video surfaced showing a postal worker dropping several bins of mail near a fenced area. The mail was supposed to be delivered to residents in Longview Walk, a Decatur subdivision. Thousands of letters were thought to be scattered.

Beaurem, who worked part time for the U.S. Postal Service, is no longer delivering mail, the agency said.

On Monday, he was being processed at the U.S. Marshal's Office, Channel 2 reported. It is a federal offense to throw away someone’s mail and could result in a fine, according to the U.S. Government Publishing Office.
