One person was killed and seven others wounded when gunfire interrupted a homecoming party near Fort Valley State University late Friday, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
The GBI is investigating the fatal shooting, which occurred off campus at a block party in the 600 block of Carver Drive in Fort Valley.
Peach County coroner Kerry Rooks said Tyler French, a 27-year-old Byron man, died around 3 a.m. Saturday, Channel 2 Action News reported. GBI investigators said he was not a student at the school, which was celebrating its homecoming weekend.
The conditions of the wounded victims were not immediately clear. Several of them were rushed to area hospitals, according to Channel 2.
