Iowa sets record highs for COVID-19 hospitalizations, 7-day case averages

Linn County reported a record-high number of COVID-19 cases in a 24-hour period that ended at 11 a.m. Tuesday, according to data analyzed by The Gazette.

The county reported 110 new cases for a total of 5,639. Linn County’s seven-day average also was a record high at 83. Its positivity rate is 26.63 percent over 24 hours.

In total, Iowa added 1,175 new virus cases, bringing the state’s seven-day average to 1,329, a record high for Iowa.

Hospitalizations continue to rise, breaking the record again with 564. Intensive-care patients dipped from 129 to 128, and patients on ventilators went from 45 to 46.

The state also confirmed 21 new deaths, bringing the toll to 1,658.

Iowa is getting ready to overtake Alabama for the #5 highest infection incidence in the country. If the Iowa House turns blue (fingers crossed), they should impeach Reynold for gross mismanagement of the COVID-19 pandemic. What a clusterf**k!
