Iowa
Related: About this forumSo, Iowa Forumers, what are your major issues this fall?
The high rate of cancer?
The young people leaving?
The state budget crisis that is about 3 years from crashing?
Dirty water (coupled with the cancer)?
the way overuse of farm chemicals?
The MAGA super control of the state government?
Killing education in Iowa?
Or national issue like-
- Trump's corruption and Iowa MAGAs part in the cult
- the climate?
- The insane war?
- Trump dissolving our foreign alignments?
- Trump's fawning of dictators?
- tax policies and other policies favoring the rich?
- immigration?
- CPB and ICE
- Social Security being killed by MAGA?
- cutting Medicaid and SNAP?
Or just any others. I am so curious what Iowans are thinking

(1,887 posts)the cancer rate is related to dirty water is related to overuse of farm chemicals
young people leaving is related to one-party control and education and killing education in Iowa. I'd hate to be a young woman in Iowa and worry what would happen if I had a pregnancy go awry, or even need to get an gyno appointment urgently. Not to mention shitty wages and benefits, the low cost of living doesn't make up for it.
I spent 25 years working in my local school district. I would love to see ESAs abolished and the money stolen from public schools returned - OR AT LEAST accounted for!
How many of us have personally been affected by our own cancer, or that of a loved one, or friends, co-workers, family? The polluted environment affects us all. Farmers need to make a profit but not at the expense of everyone's health.
And leave my IPERS alone! I worked for that, dammit! Let the newbies have it to look forward to, and keep my retirement solvent!

(648 posts)The minimum wage needs to be raised by a lot. It is impossible take it on $7.75 per hour. Heck I made a lot more than that when I was working and it wasn't easy making it on that.
