I got a brochure in the mail from Iowans for Tax Relief about the gas tax increase.

The brochure has big red letters encouraging a No to a 45.5% gas tax increase with that figure plugged into a gas pump like display for different grades of gasoline. It is very misleading. Has anyone else received this and are you familiar with this group?

at a local legislative forum last Saturday. They didn't want to say they were for it cause of consequences no doubt. But it was also obvious that it was really popular even among the thirty or so in attendance.

Screwing people over - this is what David Stanley lives for. He said Friday night on the weekly Iowa news show on IPTV that his people - ITR - would be contacting (badgering) legislators on this.

So please contact your rep and senator, especially the republicans, and tell them we want our roads fixed.

IOWANS FOR TAX RELIEF (IFTR)

An organization that is looking to lower taxes so they can make money on their and clients investments. Now you're wondering "WHY" I would say that. It's because those that are in charge are business people, some who own an investment firm for mutual funds.

Here's a PAC that hides itself behind being a "non-partisan" group. It actually has many faces with the same address. Here's a list of those OTHER names:

Capital Formation Council
Iowa Tax Limitation Committee
J&D Fund
Muscatine Public Affairs Organization
Opportunities, Inc.
Public Interest Committee
Rights & Resposibilities, Inc.
Free Enterprise Associates
Iowa Public Policy Association
Pearl Mutual Funds

Wow! And they all use the same address in Muscatine. Now you're probably wondering how I found this out. Well thanks to Yahoo and Google, you can find this out.

First, let me introduce the individuals in charge of this PAC.

Position Name
Chairman David M. Stanley
Vice Chairman Robert H. Solt
Vice Chairman Cloyd E. Robinson
President Jeffery R. Boeyink
Executive Vice President Edward D. Failor, Jr
Senior Counsel Edward D. Failor, Sr
Finance Chair Peter E. Voorhees
So what is so special about these guys? Let me tell ya. Let's start with the first two on this list.

David Stanley was a former 12 year Republican Legislator, a retired lawyer and is now Founder, Chairman and CEO of Pearl Mutual Funds. His partner, Mr. Solt is President and CEO as well.

Mr Stanley also runs several Foundations, Trusts and a Charity. However, as I did research on some of these grants, much of this money comes from Mr. Stanley and his family. Probably to reduce his tax requirements each year. Must be nice to develope your own organization to lower your taxes.

As for Mr. Solt, He has a Foundation that is only used for religious purposes only. His organization may have gave to some organizations that don't look religous, but don't blink. Many of his grants probably had stipulations on what the money is used for.
