Girl shot at Coral Ridge Mall has died

One man is in custody in connection with Friday night's shooting inside the Coral Ridge Mall in Coralville, in which a teenage girl was reportedly shot in the back and killed.

The Iowa Department of Public Safety says the suspected shooter has been apprehended and there is no further danger to the general public.

The IDPS did not release the man's name.

The Iowa City Press Citizen reports a teenage girl was shot in the back by a former mall security guard, whom had been fired earlier Friday.

No names have been made public.

7. Victim's name released

Johnson County Attorney Janet Lyness said Andrea Farrington, 20, was shot three times in the torso by 22-year-old Alexander Matthew Kozak. Farrington was transported to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics but did not survive.

Farrington graduated from Montezuma High School in 2012. She had been working at the Iowa Children’s Museum for six months. Her family said it was her dream job.

A close friend of Farrington has set up a GoFundMe page for donations to her family.

The lone suspect in Friday's deadly shooting at Coral Ridge Mall had been sexually harassing the victim for weeks, a family member of the victim said.

Authorities have identified Andrea Farrington, 20, as the victim in Friday's shooting.

Farrington was scared "that he was going to kill her," said Savanna Dayton, her 19-year-old cousin. "That was her No. 1 fear."

Dayton said her cousin, who worked at the Iowa Children's Museum in the mall, told her several times that Alexander Kozak, a mall security guard, had been engaging in disturbing behavior toward her for at least the past six weeks.

It's just so disgusting. A young woman who should've been getting ready for college, cut down like this. I hope the shooter lives a very long time, filled with the knowledge of what he has done.
