Former IA lawmaker Pat Murphy running for Congress

Former Dubuque area state Representative Pat Murphy is going to make another run at the NE Iowa Congressional seat;

Former state lawmaker Pat Murphy, of Dubuque, declared his candidacy for northeast Iowa's U.S. House seat today in an email message to supporters.

He will face Cedar Rapids City Council Member Monica Vernon and former "Saturday Night Live" cast member Gary Kroeger in the race to become the Democratic challenger to U.S. Rep. Rod Blum, a Dubuque Republican in his first term.

A former Iowa House speaker, Murphy states in the email that "middle-class Iowans deserve to have a voice in Congress."

Murphy says his record includes efforts to raise the minimum wage and teacher pay, passing laws devoted to equal pay for women and protecting women's health care.

Any of those three would be much better than Blum.
