Longtime Dubuque civil rights leader Ruby Sutton has died

Longtime Dubuque civil rights leader Ruby Sutton died Thursday night at her home, surrounded by family, according to her daughter and City Council Member Lynn Sutton.

Ruby Sutton, 82, suffered from dementia and had been in poor health, Lynn Sutton said.

“She was at home and died very peacefully last night with family present,” Lynn Sutton said.

Ruby Sutton was inducted into the Iowa Women’s Hall of Fame in 2010.
