Forum held on hate crimes in Dubuque
Dubuque held a forum this evening in response to the cross burnings back in April;
Local civil rights and community leaders have sounded a call to action for the Dubuque community to be vigilant in reporting, confronting and preventing hate- and bias-based crimes.
"Hate does not sleep, so we need to wake up," Dubuque Human Rights Commission Chairman Anthony Allen told more than 70 people gathered tonight at Dubuque's Mindframe Theaters.
U.S. Department of Justice officials joined local officials at the public forum. They were joined by officials from the FBI and the U.S. Attorney's office.
The purpose of the public forum was to strengthen community understanding of local and federal hate-crime responses and build collaboration among key community partners to prevent such crimes in the future, U.S. Attorney Kevin Techau said.
I guess the TH didn't want the usual Klan rally in the comments section this evening so they turned that off.
