Do any of you have any advice on how early to get there? Or anything else I should know.
I will be at the Dubuque stop on Wednesday
Thanks.

(11,076 posts)We have seen both the President and the First Lady on separate occasions this summer. The staff should be able to give you the time that the doors open. If you care about where you sit you probably want to get there about that time. If you have anyone in your group with special needs you can move to the head of the line and they will help you get to a seat that can accommodate you.
When we saw Michelle we were stupid, not realizing that she would shake hands with the folks who are standing up front. If this interests you plant yourself next to the cattle guard in front and you just may get to shake the hand of a very cool Prez!
Also, if you wear your Obama paraphernalia they may pull you out to sit behind the President. This is also a fun spot but you will only see his behind as we found out at Ohio Sate when he announced his campaign. It was all fun though. Somebody has to have his back!
Don't take bags, backpacks or purses. Cameras are OK. Security is just like the airport so prepare to be wanded!
In Ohio they passed water out and tried to keep folks cool on the run up.
If it is raining or may rain, take a poncho or garbage bag. Umbrellas are not permitted inside.
Enjoy the moment! The folks who go to see the Obamas are a neat crowd. You will enjoy it.
Peace,
Kim

(62,411 posts)so by that logic you may want to get there early to be at the front of the line.
My recollection is that we have usually done well about an hour to 1.5 hours early. It will take up a good portion of your day, but it is a thrill to be there.

(3,665 posts)When they gave me the ticket, they did say I would be seated. Fingers crossed, because I have a slight heart condition. I don't think I could stand for that long.
BTW. There was a group of nuns who worked very hard for Obama in line in front of me.

(49,988 posts)I got in line about 10:15 and was in the gate about 40 minutes later (just before 11:00). The Prez didn't actually show up until about 11:20ish but there were other speakers first so it was all good. Of course if you want to get up close you have to get there early!
They said they don't allow SLR cameras but I saw a few there (wish I had taken mine) No food or drink allowed in the area but they had free bottled water available inside.
Have fun!!
