University of Louisville board cancels meeting; not enough trustees
The paralysis of governance at the University of Louisville continued Thursday as its old Board of Trustees, which was reinstated by court order, could not get enough members to hold a proposed meeting.
The failure to obtain a quorum came two days after Gov. Matt Bevin said the old board is illegally constituted and that any meeting it holds would "further tarnish" the university’s reputation.
Larry Benz, chairman of the Beshear-appointed board, said in an email that the board doesn’t typically meet in August because of scheduling issues and that a meeting Thursday “simply wasn’t going to work.” Benz had said the board would meet this week to ratify actions of the Bevin-appointed board, including its acceptance of President James Ramsey's resignation last week.
Without a board in place, faculty cannot be hired, promoted or considered for tenure.
