Kentucky teacher goes in labor, delivers baby at school

NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. -- A Kentucky teacher got an unexpected surprise by giving birth during school.

Local news outlets report that eighth grade teacher Allison Zemba went into labor at East Jessamine Middle School in Nicholasville on Thursday afternoon and delivered a baby girl in the school's bathroom.

Friday was supposed to be Zemba's last day before going on maternity leave and her due date was Dec. 30.

Jessmaine County Schools Superintendent Kathy Fields says Zemba's husband, another teacher and the school nurse were there to help during the delivery.

Can't think of a germ-ier place to give birth. Glade everyone is ok. Wonder if they'll name the baby Jessamine? Not bad.

The irony is the number of pregnancies that have began and ended there...and under far less pleasant situations than those described in the article.

Worst I ever got chewed out when I did telephone triage was when I didn't like the sound of a Mom's voice and told her to meet the doc at the hospital instead of calling the doc first.

Worst apology: doc disconnected in the middle of the chewing out. Worst apology: labor and delivery said the mom had barely gotten through the door to the ER when she delivered--they called me 15 minutes later.

Fast labor means there's often no time to do things right.
