I just started a digital painting class and was informed that the college can use any work done in that class without permission.

your college or whoever informed you of this may be wrong. Don't just accept it as a given.

People were outraged when Gingrich talked about kids cleaning classrooms. This takes potential Child Labor farther.
if anyone who creates imagery or written materials attaches a copyright before it's submitted or even visible... And I can smell a lot of taxpayer $$ being wasted on legal defense of these institutions...
As an artist, I object.
