Maryland General Assembly meets for opening day amid pandemic
As they gaveled in the start of the 2021 General Assembly on Wednesday, Maryland's senators sat amid a labyrinth of plexiglass cubicles.
They're still debating what to call the things. Pods? Telephone booths?
Peering through the new barriers, the legislators quickly got to work, interrupted only by the technological hiccups that have become everyday annoyances during the pandemic — unintentional mutes, malfunctioning microphones and halting live streams.
Senate President Bill Ferguson reminded senators of what's at stake this year as he addressed the floor shortly after noon.
