Early reports are suggesting CLARK will win Markey's seat with a very small turnout.

Her opponent was a nutty teabagger asshole, but it was a shitty day (rain/sleet/snow) for an election.

Why they didn't hold this "special" on "Election Day" is beyond me.

be!!!!! Of course, the little shit doesn't even live in the district--he'd have to move if he wins (he doesn't have to worry about calling the moving van).

This is good news, though--I feel the tide turning in MA. Clark will only be the FIFTH female legislator we've sent to DC. So much for that "blue state" and "liberal" label--we're finally getting past the rampant sexism that has been a hallmark of political life in this state.

Clark is leading Addivinola right now at slightly over two to one margin--I am shocked it's not higher but it's still early yet--less than a quarter of the vote counted. The turnout was ABYSMAL--around ten percent.

I'm glad that people sloshed out to vote for her in this shitty weather.

So today he becomes a four time loser (US House-- twice, the state Senate, and the Boston City Council.) What's left to run for? Dogcatcher?

4. Looks like they are calling it for CLARK!!! Chalk up another HOUSE SEAT for our team!!

For the next eleven months, anyway!!!!! I hope she does a good job and can cruise to reeelection...!

7. 5th district was always going to go for Clark (or whoever won the primary)

Martha Coakley won that district with more than 60 % of the vote.

They could not hold the election on election day because of the rules for special election. You need a certain number of days between the opening of the seat and the primary and between the primary and general election.

8. Totally sucks, that rule--they need to find a way to truncate if both parties agree.

The difference between today and election day wouldn't have been much--except maybe the turnout would have been better and the communities would have saved some money.

Oh well, water under the bridge! Let's hope we can KEEP our new rep and our new Senators, and not have people poaching our talent--we've had five Senators since Ted died....enough!

I knew it was a likely win for Katherine Clark, but I always worry until the votes are counted--I just can't get complacent until the margins are wide and the race is called.
