Congressman James McGovern fighting food stamp cuts

http://www.thesunchronicle.com/articles/2012/04/25/news/11390961.txt

"The House Agricultural Committee has voted to trim another $33 billion from the food stamp program, which is officially called SNAP.

U.S. Rep. James McGovern, a long-time advocate of food stamps and nutrition programs, said the cuts will mean people will go hungry.
A member of the Agricultural Committee, McGovern, D-Worcester, said there are more responsible ways to deal with the debt problem.

He said cutting $33 billion means that more than 22 million households will see a reduction in their benefits and 2 million households would lose food stamps altogether."

crisis in this country with millions of people going to bed hungry and trying to survive on Ramen noodles. Many of these people work but their wages only cover the cost of rent. For millions of children, the only food they get is what they receive in school. That is a total disgrace in a country that worships at the feet of millionaires and billionaires. It is also unconscionable in a country that claims to be Christian and tries to force that religion down everyone's throats. And now our Congress, a body that is elected to stand up for our citizens, wants to pass measures to cut off the only source of food for millions of those people.
