Boston's progressive station 1510 is officially sports. (UPDATED)

Last edited Tue Sep 11, 2012, 03:37 AM - Edit history (2)

UPDATE 9/11/12: Boston Globe reports that WWZN broadcasts NBC Sports Radio overnights, 7pm-5am. Also this facebook post promotes a local sports call-in show. RIP progressive talk in Boston for now.

Speculation on the radio-info boards is that "Revolution Boston" AM 1510 in Boston will flip to NBC Sports the day after Labor Day.

The timeline of events in recent station history should probably make it clear:
- June 9, 2012: Dial Global, syndicator of the Stephanie Miller, Ed Schultz, and Thom Hartmann shows, ends its contract with WWZN "Revolution Boston". As a result, Revolution replaces those shows with Warren Ballantine, Democracy Now, Al Sharpton, and Randi Rhodes.
- July 24: Jeff Santos, president of the WWZN station and of the Revolution Radio Network that syndicates his afternoon Rebuild America show, issues this statement that technical difficulties caused Yahoo Sports Radio to be simulcast on WWZN 24/7:

- July 25: Dial Global announces the launch of a new NBC Sports radio network.

Sad day for Boston. How the hell can that very liberal city lack a liberal talk radio station? Boston has room for the conservative WRKO 680, a COMEDY station at 1200 (used to be the Rush Limbaugh affiliate before this week), adult contemporary (whatever that is) on at least five different stations (93.3, 99.1, 104.1, 104.5, and 106.7 for example), two sports FM stations (one of which is already on the AM dial already), but no progressive talk????

If Clear Channel could come to its senses, it would bring back prog talk on 1200. In fact AM 1200 was Air America from 2004-2006. Clear Channel already has successful progressive stations in Portland (KPOJ), Denver (KKZN), Detroit (WDTW), and (partially in) San Francisco (KNEW, I say partially since that station has now added conservative shows like Glenn Beck and Bill Cunningham).

Here in Ohio (after the Dems swept the state races in 2006), all of the growing progressive radio stations suddenly became sports radio ... and took big hits in the ratings.

Also, The Jeff Santos Show cuts into Stephanie Miller, so I only end up listening until 9 AM.

But go to radio-locator, and notice that 1510 only is clear within downtown Boston.
