Absentees put Snyder, Schauer race in dead heat

from the Detroit Free Press:

The race for governor has tightened into a virtual dead heat heading into the final days of this election cycle. And the Democrats' strategy to increase turnout by getting people to vote by absentee ballot is a big driver.

With less than a week before the Nov. 4 election, Gov. Rick Snyder has only a two-point, 45%-43%, lead over Democrat Mark Schauer, according to an exclusive 600-person poll of likely voters taken Oct. 26-28 by EPIC-MRA for the Free Press, WXYZ-TV and their media polling partners. Nine percent of respondents said they still are undecided, and 3% percent said they are voting for third-party candidates.

Among those 9% undecided, however, the partisan leanings of 8% are toward Democrats and 1% toward Republicans. If those undecideds are put into the mix, the race is a 46%-46% tie, said Bernie Porn, president of EPIC-MRA.

"The ground game is starting to take effect with absentee voters," Porn said. "We've got ourselves a horse race." ............(more)

1. GACK. This is going to be a nail biter. I hope the lead that Peters has over

Land will pull Schauer over the top.

GOTV!

2. Land is burnt toast.

Her adverts are universally horrible and Peters is eating her lunch.

Schauer is indeed close and is hammering Snyder on cuts to education and taxing seniors.

We may see a Democratic turn here. One would hope.

And BTW, vote for Richard Bernstein for MI Supreme Court.

3. Will do, and please vote NO on Props 1 & 2.

I went to college with Land. She was insufferable then and she's even more insufferable now, LOL. I'm so happy to see Peters trouncing her.

4. Will do on props -- that is an easy call.

Otherwise, it's straight Democratic Party.

Any other ideas on the Supremes? I'd appreciate some advice.

5. I won't vote to re-elect Viviano & Zahra

because the Republican Party is running ads for them, so that puts the kibosh on them in my book. I'm for Murphy, Thomas, & Bernstein.

6. That was my take on Viviano and Zahra.

There's an ad running with Viviano, Zahra and Redford, obviously paid for by wing nuts.

I don't think Richard Bernstein has much of a chance. He's blind and adverts for his family's law firm are all over the TV. Plus, I don't think his political adverts are very good. Nevertheless, I knew he had my vote as soon as I heard that he was running.

We can vote for three. Which ones, other than Bernstein?

Too bad Soapy isn't alive anymore.

7. Really! I'm pretty much following the MDP nominations:

appeals Judge William Murphy, Wayne County Judge Deborah Thomas and Detroit-area lawyer Richard Bernstein
