Statement from Michigan State Representative Mai Xiong on ICE repression

Heartfelt and Strong – Reprinted in full with permission:

I am truly devastated for the Hmong American community, families and friends in Minnesota, and the immigrant community across our country who are living through a moment of fear and grief. The recent federal immigration enforcement operations has left neighborhoods shaken, and the tragic killing of a U.S. citizen in Minneapolis has only deepened that pain and uncertainty. What was meant to be “public safety” has instead felt like terror in the streets, causing too many of our neighbors to fear for their lives and dignity.

To every parent laying awake at night, every young person watching their community struggle for stability, and every family wondering if they or someone they love could be next: I see you. I feel your pain. This is not abstract policy for us —it is real lives, real families, real children seeing their sense of safety shattered.

But even in this moment of sorrow, I want to remind us all of who we are and who we can be. Our communities have survived fear before — through courage, through unity, and through unwavering love for one another. Let us hold onto that same resilience now.

We must demand justice —not only in how decisions are made, but in how they are carried out. We must call for transparency, accountability, and systems grounded in compassion, not intimidation. We must ensure that the voices of immigrants, of people of color, of everyday Americans are heard, valued, and protected. And we must do this not just with protest, but with empathy, with strategy, and with bold unity.

To those who are hurting, remember this: you are not alone. There are people standing beside you, in your neighborhoods, in community halls, in statehouses, and across this nation, who share your alarm and your hope. Together, we can transform this moment of fear into a movement toward safety, dignity, and a more just future for all.

In every fear even in the darkest days, love remains stronger. In every act of intimidation, truth still speaks. And in every loss, we must commit to building a world where no one has to fear their own government or their own community. I

They suffered, bled and died to save American lives.

This persecution by a gaggle of cowards is infuriating.
