Court dismisses Abdul El-Sayed eligibility lawsuit

LANSING, MI -- A Court of Claims judge on Thursday dismissed a lawsuit intended to determine if Democratic candidate Abdul El-Sayed was eligible to serve as governor.

"As we have always maintained, Abdul is 100% eligible to be Governor of Michigan," said El-Sayed Director of Communications Adam Joseph in a statement.

"As we expected, the Secretary of State last week rejected these baseless allegations in an unprecedented confirmation of Abdul's eligibility to serve as governor in his state. As of this week, Judge Murray has also consented to our motion to dismiss the case following the Bureau of Elections decision, further certifying Abdul's eligibility."

The campaign had filed the lawsuit at the request of the Michigan Democratic Party after questions arose about whether El-Sayed met the residency requirements to serve as governor.
