Who here is still walking on air?

Last edited Wed Dec 7, 2022, 06:06 PM - Edit history (1)

For a whole month now, I am lifted every single time I think of what happened in Michigan in the mid terms. Whenever I feel anxious about national politics or the GOP getting the US House, I just turn my thoughts to Michigan and the blue wave we saw. Just a remarkable election for Democrats in our state. We will have at least 2 years of Full Democratic control in our state, the only thing missing are super majorities.

6 years ago when Trump won Michigan, Our US house delegation was 9 Republicans and 6 Dems. We had a Republican governor, lieutenant governor, Secretary of State, and Attorney General. The Republicans had a super majority in the state Senate, and nearly a 2/3s majority in the House (67-43). The state legislature was a rubber stamp for anything Snyder wanted to do to working people. The state had never been bleaker with total Republican Control ravaging the working class. They worked endlessly to destroy public schools, destroy unions, and tax the working class. It was a disaster.

The revolution started in 2018. And it is fully realized now. We have a total takeover of the state government. Strong and wonderful women now lead the state as Governor, AG, and SoS. US House delegation is now 7-6 in favor of Dems. We flipped the state Supreme Court along the way. We swept the board of regents for major universities. And we somehow, surprisingly took over both houses in the state government. It was a 4 year revolution! We got non partisan redistricting done. We got abortion and voting rights enshrined in our state Constitution. 4 years of hard hard work, 4 years to totally transform our government.

Every day I think of what happened here and smile, it lifts me up and gives me hope for the rest of the country. It happened here in Michigan, it can happen in other states. In 2016, Michigan was trending like the next Florida or Ohio, but the people rose up and turned the state around. There's no reason Wisconsin, Ohio, and even Florida can't have the same thing happen. When democrats unite and work together, we can do anything.

Phone banked for weeks gave what I could monetarily. I think any and all election deniers are toast in Michigan. Would have loved for Walberg to go, but you can't have everything.

To both my local and state elections. Whitmer got money from me, so did Hillary Scholten, and so did Raphael Warnock.

What was amazing to me was the GOTV effort, I've been a registered Democrat for over 30 years and I've never seen anything close to what the Dems did this cycle with GOTV. There were people knocking on my door almost every day leading up to election day to make sure I was going to vote. I spoke with campaigns via telephone. It was amazing.

Democrats are building a movement, and it very well could have started here in Michigan. More people are getting involved than ever before. It's really palpable. The people that came out for the first time in 2020 and 2022 are going to be lifelong Dem voters.
