I still don't understand how the Repulsives can fire state commissioners

Aren't state commissioners same as cabinet members at the Federal level?

Doesn't the governor seek the approval of the nominees? Walz has been a governor now for three years so hasn't he appointed commissioners since then?

From the strib

MPCA's Laura Bishop resigns ahead of expected Senate rejection

Six appointees up for consideration as Republican-led Senate approves two other Walz commissioners Tuesday.

They're simply not approved. In the state constitution, it reads, "…with the advice and consent of the senate he may appoint notaries public and other officers provided by law." That includes the commissioners. And they're often either confirmed right away, routinely, or the senate sits on the confirmation vote because there's no deadline to confirm. They use it as a tool, as the Republicans did here.

This is unusual but not unprecedented. When the DFL controlled the senate, it refused to confirm a couple of Pawlenty commissioners .

Presidential cabinet members also require consent of the senate.

drag, the candidates often remove their names. Here we are talking about almost three years since Walz took office. Does this mean that commissioners ran the departments without being confirmed?
