'Betty Whiteout,' 'Ctrl Salt Delete' top winners in MnDOT Name-a-Snowplow contest

A tribute to a Golden Girl will soon grace an orange truck clearing snow and ice from Minnesota highways.

"Betty Whiteout" is the runaway winner in this winter's Minnesota Department of Transportation Name-A-Snowplow contest.

The name honoring Hollywood icon Betty White, who died Dec. 31 at age 99, received 40,024 online votes in the results announced Thursday.

Coming in second with 21,372 votes was "Ctrl Salt Delete," followed by "The Big Leplowski" (17,478), "Plowasaurus Rex" (13,209) and "Scoop Dogg" (13,144).

"The Big Leplowski" but can Minnesota surveill and track 'em as well!

TRACK A PLOW!
The City of Hilliard has launched SnowPaths, a new fleet tracking software. The public can now track the City’s snowplows, pickup trucks, leaf vacuums, and chipper trucks.

The system uses in-truck GIS technology to log and share data in real-time for that truck. Some of the trucks even sport unique names chosen by the community.

Operations Director Larry Lester said SnowPaths will help crews manage their fleet through a management dashboard.

The web application will allow residents to go online during a snow event to see each plow’s location, direction and plow and spreader status.

“Every plow is different and naming them makes it easier and more fun for us all to track,” Lester said.

Here's the rest of the snow beasts' names: Meet The Big Leplowski (and other punny snowplows)
