OK, I LOVE MN NICE for the most part, but nothing NOTHING will get done with a DEM Majority and a DEM Govenor who decides to let the toddler party make the decisions.
What the toddlers want... and they've wanted it before .... is Voter ID.
So DEMS can make it easier to vote as long as Rethugs can still make it harder to vote.

Senate Democrats moved on an omnibus elections bill in committee this week without any Republican votes, even though Gov. Mark Dayton has maintained his pledge that election legislation must garner broad bipartisan support to secure his signature.
GO TO THE ABOVE url and click on omnibus elections bill to get the actual bill itself.
TWO of the basic components are also being worked on for a HOUSE Bill:

(House Rep Steve) Simon, who is still working to craft the House elections package, said that proposal would appear in the next few weeks. He isnt sure exactly what it will look like yet.
The DFLer from Hopkins is also taking a different tack than his Senate counterpart by crafting both an omnibus proposal and passing each measure out of committee individually.
The House Elections Committee already has heard a no-excuse absentee voting bill and a straightforward early-voting measure has been introduced. Simon is optimistic that Democrats will move forward on some proposals.
I subscribe to the Phyllis Kahn theory of legislating, which
is the best thing is to have your bills alive in as many places as possible, he said.

(7,887 posts)NO-excuse absentee voting and a straightforward early-voting is Minnesota COMMON SENSE and does NOT need any bi-partisan bickering to dilute it.
You want to be a one term Governor, keep this up.
Democrats have CLEARLY seen what all Obama's catering to the toddler attitudes of the Tea Party Right Wing crazies has accomplished. Congressional gridlock.
Minnesota voted for a DEM Congress and it looks like we got one. We voted for a DEM Governor and you don't look to DEM to me right now. Care to explain yourself, Govenor Dayton?
Drop the Minnesota Nice and pick up the Mid-West Common Sense that God gave a goose and stand WITH your party instead of with the Rethugs that have done so much damage to our state already.
Outraged Citizen.

(7,887 posts)It means she can say something fearful like that without quoting any facts and just smear the whole thing.
Her other comment "The sad thing is, neither of them increase the integrity of the election" is full of beans too.
Absentee ballots tie a person to their home residence AND voter registration - so they ARE a more secure form of voting. She's such a dumba** it doesn't surprise me her election results were off by 100,000 votes.

(3,908 posts)Did he really make that pledge? What was he thinking? If we wanted things their way we would have left them in. Did they ever look for bipartisan support on anything?

(even same day registration to some extent).
Mark needs to realize that anything that may encourage voter turn out will be opposed by Republicans and bipartisanship is no longer possible when it comes to this.

(7,887 posts)But I do believe that Mark is cut from similar cloth as Obama. He has had the experience of seeing the DEMs and Republicans putting forward laws that work for the majority and with support on both sides it does decrease the huge divide. It's a nice soothing thought and we are on the verge of Civil War every so often. I get it.
BUT this isn't the kind of issue that should be put up on the sacrificial altar. In fact, I'd really like to be done with sacrificing anything to the Tea Bag idiots in MN. They are wrong. We know it. End of story. Let's get some work done, like Minnesotans always do despite whatever excuses or whinning there is on the other end of the isle.

(7,887 posts)But until the Tea Party whackos are gone, this kind of MN Nice brand of politics is just going to lead to letting the party of NO! lead us into worse and worse scenarios.
