Even from the suburb I am familiar with many of these establishments.

Am familiar with the intersection of Chicago and 38th. We used to visit the Turtle Bread and, for special occasions, the late Cafe Levain down a few blocks. There was also a discount movie theater.

Neither Detroit nor South Los Angeles recovered from the 1967 and the 1992 riots, respectively. I hope that here it will be different, though one cannot blame a small business owner of deciding to call it quit, on top of the the friendly Covid-19.

2. Third Precinct was my home for many years. Some of those businesses are dear to me.

My old neighbors will face much hardship because of this. Many of them are far from wealthy, and lack the means to travel long distances for their necessities.
