Sports betting remains hot topic at the state capitol

Sports betting has been a hot legislative topic in Missouri, especially when the economy was struggling at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.

That fervor has cooled with the influx of federal dollars to the Show-Me State flush. But sports betting remains something many lawmakers on both sides of the aisle want to happen.

In Missouri, you still can't bet legally on the outcome of sports events. Many people travel to our neighbor to the east to place bets.

Sports betting is big money in Illinois. The Land of Lincoln collected $1.1 million in tax revenue off of last year's Superbowl alone.

Repairing the roads and bridges in Missouri would do more for its residents than establishing betting as a legal pursuit. There's already plenty of gambling being done in their casinos. It would make more sense to make it easier and safer to get to those casinos.
