Local poll workers gear up for Election Day with training

(KODE/KSNF) — With election day less than 4 weeks away, local poll workers are getting ready. We spoke with a few that have decades of poll working under their belts.

“The first presidential election that I worked for was for Jimmy Carter, and that was back in the seventies,” said Barbara Burnett.

Burnett has been an election judge or supervisor for more than 50 years. In that time, she says the roles of a poll worker have evolved.

“We used to do the paper pencil thing where everything was written in the book. It was counted by hand. The ballots were stacked up, Democrats, Republicans or whoever, whatever they were,” said Burnett.
