Nevada increases top speed limit to 80 mph
The maximum speed limit in Nevada is now officially 80 mph.
But, at least for now, only on a 60-mile stretch of Interstate 80 between Fernley and Lovelock.
Senate Bill 2 of the 2015 Legislature was sponsored by Sen. Don Gustavson, R-Sparks, to increase the state's speed limits on Nevada's major rural highways.
He argued cars and trucks were much safer at higher speeds than they were in the 1960s when the typical highway speed limit was 65 mph. Gustavson, a retired truck driver, said tires, suspensions and the overall construction of vehicles is dramatically improved over the years.

But they gradually raised it in certain places and now it's back to 65. But of course most people go much faster. 
Most of the interstates here are 70 and 75 with those in west Texas going up to 80. And of course most people go much faster. 
It's 55 in Vermont in a lot of places, even on the highways. Of course, it's much more rural. I didn't drive yet when it was 55 here, but I remember when it first started and it felt like you were just crawling along, but then you got used to it. And there are still spots when you end up going slower, like the traffic coming out of Albany at rush hour. That is, if you can manage to get into traffic on the three lane highway when it's practically bumper to bumper. That's the scary part.
