The good news, the state is rolling in cash. The bad news, elections are coming up and

the temptation will be for legislators to act like Sanni Clauz and find ways to spend the surplus. The responsible action would be to pay down some of the state's debt.

Which do you think?

1. I'd mix it up. I'd pay down some of the Whitman/Christie debts...

...and put more money in Rutgers and the other public educational institutions, and not for a damn football team.

Murphy said, when he was running, that he wanted to keep the best students in New Jersey. Rutgers accepted my son in what they said was their highly competitive engineering program, but offered him zero money.

He got $50,000 per year in Pennsylvania, at a private institution.

Guess where he went? Guess where he's likely to end up? I don't expect he'll return to New Jersey.

My kids are graduated, but I agree with Murphy that the core of what New Jersey is involves a highly educated populace. We do need to keep our best students, our best high school students here, and I would love to see a generous scholarship program for our Stem students.

Not all of the surplus, but some of it.

2. Debts

And push some over to the districts that faced public education cuts.
