Group, families pushing for gun storage law in N.Y.

D&C

ALBANY – Gun-control advocates on Tuesday pressed for a law that would require additional storage requirements for guns.

New Yorkers Against Gun Violence and victims’ families are seeking legislative approval for “Nicholas’ Law,” which would would require the safe storage of all guns not in the immediate possession or control of the gun owner.

The legislation would require owners to put guns in a safe storage depository or equip them with a locking device, with the goal of preventing access by children and others, the group said. It would also increase criminal penalties if the law isn’t followed, including up to a class E felony if a person is seriously injured or killed with an unlocked gun.

I think this is a good idea for a number of reasons. I'm sure the NRA types will work against it. Hoyt Apr 2014 #1
It is a shame reasonable legislation has to be blocked by that organization. hrmjustin Apr 2014 #2

After all, it is just money that could go to purchasing another gun, ammo, silencer, or other accessories the gun fanciers think they may need like special sights in case they need to clear a room (actually heard one of our gungeoneers express the need for such accessories).

I guess because the safe act got through they won't let this pass the senate.

We shall see.
