Capacity zone revision could ease electricity rate hikes for Central Hudson customers

William J. Kemble

The New York Independent System Operator is revising its proposal for a Hudson Valley “capacity zone” for utilities’ electricity purchases, U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer said Tuesday.

The revision, if approved by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, would result in rates hikes associated with new zone being phased in over three years, rather than taking effect all at once, Schumer said. The zone is to take effect May 1.
