The Administration for Childrens Services is beefing up its operation with 362 new staffers after the deaths of three young children so far this year, Commissioner Gladys Carrion said Thursday.
New York City has been saddened by the reports of tragic deaths of several young children this year, as recently as last week, Carrion said at a City Council hearing, pledging the new staffers would strengthen the agencys overall child protective practices.
Mayor de Blasio ordered a series of reforms after the torture and beating death of 4-year-old Myls Dobson in January.
Since then, two other children whose families had been probed by the agency have died. Two-year-old Kevasia Edwards, was allegedly beaten to death by her mother, and 4-year-old Juan Sanchez died after eating rat poison while playing unsupervised in a stairwell.
