Mayor de Blasio, Rev. Al Sharpton join activists outside of Nigerian Consulate to urge country to rescue kidnapped girls

CORINNE LESTCH

A crowd of activists, along with Mayor de Blasio and his family, congregated outside the Nigerian Consulate on Saturday to urge the country to safely rescue the 276 girls who were cruelly abducted by terrorists.

“They need to know the world is with them,” said de Blasio, with First Lady Chirlane McCray and daughter Chiara de Blasio standing by his side. “We have to put pressure on those who would do something as dastardly, as horrible, as abducting young girls who have no reason to be in the middle of this conflict.”
.
The group of protesters condemned the sluggish response of Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan to retrieve the girls who were plucked from their families last month, and said they had gathered in “the spirit of the mother” for Mother’s Day.
