LICH advocates strike a last-minute deal

Dan Goldberg

The attorney representing six community groups fighting to keep Long Island College Hospital open has reached a deal with The Peebles Corporation that would appear to allow SUNY to move forward with its plans to sell the hospital while maintaining services on site.

Jim Walden sent an email around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday night letting various parties know that he has "a binding agreement with the Peebles group that addresses the medical services issues for the LICH campus."

Walden said he will reveal the details in court this morning.

The email comes seven hours after SUNY officials announced they would keep LICH open for “the next couple days,” giving everyone a few more hours to work out a final agreement.
