East New York to be first of 15 neighborhoods targeted for affordable housing

East New York will be ground zero for Mayor de Blasio’s massive affordable housing plan.

City Planning chairman Carl Weisbrod said Thursday the city will target 15 neighborhoods for new building - and the Brooklyn neighborhood will be first up.

The housing blueprint calls building 80,000 new affordable apartments and preserving another 120,000 over ten years.

Planners have been eyeing East New York for years and think it can be a “template” for what can be done elsewhere, Weisbrod said.
