State Assembly to vote on Medical Marijuana legislation
GLENN BLAIN
The state Assembly is kicking off its post-Memorial Day work by taking up legislation to legalize marijuana for medicinal purposes.
Assembly spokesman Michael Whyland confirmed Tuesday that the Democrat-led chamber intends to take up and pass its version of the
Compassionate Care Act, which would legalize pot use for a select number of serious medical conditions. The Assembly has passed the measure previously only to see it die in the Senate.
The latest move, however, comes a week after the Senates version of the bill - sponsored by state Sen. Diane Savino (D-Staten Island) - was approved by that chambers Health Committee with a growing number of GOP senators signaling their support for the measure. Its still unclear, though, when, if ever, the full Senate will take up the measure.
