NYC Board of Elections fires finance chief:

The city Board of Elections has fired its longtime director of finance for sloppy -- and costly -- errors in tracking employee benefits and telecom contracts.

John Ward, a Queens Republican who had managed the oft-critiqued agency's money since late 2000, got booted from his $94,630 job after a disciplinary hearing.

Sources said the complaint against Ward was twofold.

* First, Ward failed to properly handle the way the bipartisan agency's employees accrued vacation and sick time, sources familar with his case told the Daily News.
