FBI, state attorney general probe Halfmoon land sales

Brendan J. Lyons

Halfmoon

The FBI and the state attorney general's office are examining the town of Halfmoon's sale last year of seven parcels to a local developer who made the purchases for sharply less than the appraised value.

The interest by the Attorney General's Public Integrity Bureau comes several weeks after the sales were highlighted in a Times Union story that led to the abrupt resignation of a deputy town attorney, Matthew J. Chauvin, who represented the town in the land transactions.

The state and federal agencies are conducting an ongoing investigation of Halfmoon town government that began more than a year ago. It led to the October arrest of former Supervisor Melinda A. Wormuth on bribery and grand larceny charges.
