NY Court Finds NYC Pistol Licensing Fees Are Legal

AP

NEW YORK — An appeals court says it’s constitutional for New York City to charge a much higher application fee for a handgun permit than elsewhere in the state.

The 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Manhattan ruled on Tuesday.

It rejected a lawsuit brought by guns rights advocates including the New York State Rifle & Pistol Association and the Second Amendment Foundation.

They sued in 2011, saying a $340 handgun license fee every three years is unconstitutional.

The only difference is the price of fee which has gone up over the years. Given the Cost of Living in NYC, why should the amount be an issue?

7. I love the idea of high "fees" rather than taxes to pay for this. Because that is what the RW has

been doing for years: cut taxes to benefit mainly the rich, then make the little guy foot the bill. Time to give them a dose of their own medicine.
