City Human Rights Commission handing out anti-bias stickers to businesses

ERIN DURKIN

It’s your right to buy their stuff.

City anti-discrimination watchdogs are handing out stickers they’re encouraging businesses to display that read, “We Do NOT Discriminate. If you're Buying, We're Selling.”

The Human Rights Commission is promoting the decals to remind merchants and shoppers alike of the city’s aggressive anti-discrimination laws.

They’re responding in part to recent efforts outside New York to make it legal for businesses to refuse to serve LGBT patrons if it violates their religious beliefs. Such a law was recently enacted in Mississippi, while a similar law passed in Arizona but was vetoed. Some businesses in Mississippi that support equal treatment began putting up window stickers declaring that they don’t discriminate similar to the ones the city has now designed.
