NEW YORK (WABC) -- A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for most of the New York area until 8 p.m.
The National Weather Service has also issued a flash flood watch for most of the New York area.
With heavy storms expected to roll through the area, the flash flood watch is in effect from noon through Tuesday night.
The area covers the city's five boroughs, Long Island and Westchester, Rockland, Orange and Putnam counties. In Connecticut, northern and southern Fairfield is under advisory, as well as Bergen, Essex, Passaic, Union, Hudson, Hunterdon, Middlesex, Morris, Somerset, Sussex, Warren, Monmouth counties.

(205,334 posts)It was a deluge, sounded like a dull roar, accompanied by the usual flood warnings. The flooding has become a huge problem farther north of here.

(205,334 posts)I remember one really bad storm which took down limbs and required serious cleanup, but now this is happening weekly.

(205,334 posts)The closest I've experienced was in Mechanicville several years back. It was huge news because it was so unusual. I've never seen one, nor do I want to.
