Mayor de Blasio calls for redesign of downtown Brooklyn

ERIN DURKIN

Mayor de Blasio wants to glitz up drab downtown Brooklyn with new parks, stores, and a sprawling greenway.

The proposed makeover, announced Wednesday, includes a 21-acre greenway dubbed the “Brooklyn Strand,” knitting together existing plazas and green spaces so they will stretch uninterrupted from Borough Hall to the waterfront.

He also wants to allow stores to open on the first floor of imposing city-owned buildings, create three new mini-parks, launch a business improvement district to promote cultural attractions, and redesign chaotic area streets including Jay and Adams Sts.
