Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino, the Republican candidate for governor, will be deposed under oath by the court monitor overseeing the countys 2009 fair housing settlement with the federal government.
Judge Denise Cote granted the monitors request for the deposition over objections by the county and said the deposition can last up to seven hours. Three other officials involved with the settlement will also be deposed in an initial round of videotaped conversations.
The monitor, Jim Johnson of Debevoise & Plimpton, asked for the depositions to assess if the county has fulfilled its obligation to launch campaigns to broaden support for fair housing and the broad distribution of affordable housing and promote the benefits of integrated communities. Johnson said Astorinos statements were a potential violation of the settlement.
