Central NY patients to have options with new surgery centers

Amy Neff Roth,

Some Central New Yorkers could find surgery a little more convenient in the near future.

Groundbreaking took place last week for an ambulatory surgery center in Westmoreland that will provide orthopedic, pain management, spinal, hand and plastic surgeries. The center should open by June.

And plans are moving forward for the OMNI Outpatient Surgery Center, which will specialize in pain management, although it’s not certain whether the center will be built in Kirkland or in Utica.

Ambulatory surgery centers often give patients cheaper, faster, more efficient and more convenient care than hospitals, said Mike Healy, director of community relations and marketing at Oneida Healthcare Center, one of the Westmoreland center’s partners.
