State: No significant air pollution at Port of Albany

Scott Waldman

ALBANY—Air pollution from the state's largest crude oil handling facility is not harmful to humans, according to a new state analysis.

The state Department of Environmental Conservation did not find levels of carcinogens or other toxic materials that would hurt people who live near the Port of Albany, a report released Thursday found. State officials were to meet Thursday night with residents of a public housing project to release the results of three months of testing.

The tests did find air pollution, but nothing that rose above acceptable levels, according to the D.E.C. It was similar to levels largely caused by industry, traffic and heating and cooling systems.
