State says ad campaign cost another $2M

Joseph Spector

The state said today that its “Open for Business” ad campaign cost an additional $2 million than originally estimated.

After a one-year delay of a Freedom of Information request by Gannett’s Albany Bureau, the state said last month that it spent $161 million out of a $237.5 million pot on the ads. But Empire State Development corrected the figures today to include another $2 million.

The additional money was spent on the winter and spring tourism ad campaign earlier this year.

“While processing several other requests, we noticed this discrepancy in the figures that we have since corrected,” Jason Conwall, spokesman for Empire State Development, said in an email.
