Cuomo enabled Christie’s Tunnelgate-by Zephyr Teachout

Zephyr Teachout says the governor has failed to make necessary investments in New York infrastructure
ZEPHYR TEACHOUT

Last year, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie’s appointees blocked traffic at the toll booths feeding the George Washington Bridge. What has been dubbed Bridgegate created several hours of chaos, danger and inconvenience for thousands of commuters.

That episode will be etched in New Yorkers’ memories for years to come. But citizens of our state should be far more concerned by what we might call “Tunnelgate.”

Tunnelgate happened when Christie killed a plan to build two new train tunnels under the Hudson River — and Andrew Cuomo, as a candidate for governor and then governor, did nothing to stop him.

Bridgegate became a national story because it directly and immediately affected so many people, and epitomized dirty politics. But Tunnelgate is far more important to the people of our region because its effects are so severe and so long-lasting.

The people who actually vote in these primaries are the ones that like her.
