Spirited, hot, late: Day 1 of the Teachout-Wu bus tour

Conor Skelding

ROCHESTER—The New York Times editorial board had just given them a bigtime boost, but on the ground, the Teachout-Wu primary challenge to Governor Andrew Cuomo remained very much a shoestring effort.

On the first day of their "whistleblower" bus tour, Zephyr Teachout and Tim Wu struggled to keep up with an ambitious schedule that had intended to take them from New York City to Buffalo, with stops in the Hudson Valley, eastern Pennsylvania, and the Southern Tier.

The trouble started on the way out of Manhattan, after a kick-off press conference at One57 in Manhattan, where Teachout decried state tax breaks for a development company that donated generously to Cuomo.

"We're starting here today, before One57, because it is a monument to the corruption of Governor Andrew Cuomo's Albany," said Teachout, a Fordham Law professor and former Howard Dean aide who is challenging Cuomo in next month's Democratic primary.
